The master florist from Baden-Württemberg prevailed against eight other finalists with his floral competition entries at a consistently masterly level. Second and third place in the German Floristry Championship 2024 went to Lena Hartmann from Bargteheide in Schleswig-Holstein and Jennifer Mühlbauer from Pirna in Saxony. Special prizes were awarded by the expert jury in the categories "Best free creative work", "Best bar/table decoration" and "Best bound work". Josef Dirr was ahead in the free creative work, Lena Hartmann won in two categories - "Best Bar/Table Decoration" and "Best Bound Workpiece". Klaus Götz, President of the German Florists' Association e.V.-Federal Association, and Dr. Stefan Gegg, CEO of Fleurop AG, together with Christopher Ernst, Germany's Master Florist 2022, and the reigning world champion of florists, Nicolaus Peters from Berlin, crowned Josef Dirr the new German Florist Champion 2024 at a dignified awards ceremony in the Delphi Film Palace.
Josef Dirr was overjoyed with his success after the competition. He emphasized that all the finalists had done their best and shown fantastic work. FDF President Klaus Götz summed up after the competition: "Germany's best florists have presented the industry in Berlin excellently with their competition entries at this DMF 2024. The venues were exceptional. The innovative BIKINI Berlin and the venerable Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church could not have been more contrasting. The floral creations of Germany's best florists were shown to fantastic effect in these venues and delighted the Berlin public and visitors to the city. Of course, only one winner can stand at the top of the podium and I am delighted for Germany's master florist Josef Dirr on his success. In fact, for me, all participants are winners and I thank each and every one of them for their top-class contributions, personal commitment and great dedication. They have given our profession a face in Berlin and positively surprised people with their versatility and high level of creativity. I am delighted that we have such talented florists in our ranks, each of whom is a role model for our industry!"
The German Floristry Championship/DMF 2024 in Berlin was jointly organized by the German Florists' Association and Fleurop AG. By holding the event in public spaces, both sides want to present the range, creativity and high craftsmanship of the florist profession to the public. An aim that was particularly successful with the selection of special venues, the interesting competition themes on the theme of "peace" and the top-class contributions of the finalists. Five tasks had to be designed over two days of the competition. A bound work on the theme of "Coventry Prayer of Reconciliation", a bar or table decoration for a "multicultural come-together", a spatial object "BIKINI Berlin", a "floral peace pillar" and the final free creative work in the form of a floral body decoration. The bouquets are currently on display in the Memorial Church and can be admired there for a week.
The German Floristry Championships play a key role in making the flower craft more interesting for young people. Parallel to the German Championships, aspiring florists were also able to gain their first competitive experience in teams of two at the "Young Talents Trainee Cup". Alina Pleis (Blumen Klefer in Augustfehn) and Michelle Ulfers (Blumenhaus Garlichs in Schortens) won the junior contest.
